About this tool

BOL Maker is a free bill of lading generator. You fill in a shipment, it lays the details onto a standard straight bill of lading, and you print it. There is no account, no trial, and no feature that waits behind a payment screen.

Why it exists

Search for a bill of lading form and you get two kinds of result. The first is a template mill: a page offering forty free blank BOL templates, which is thirty-nine more than anyone needs and none of which explain a single box. The second is a generator that works — until you reach for the useful part, at which point it wants you to make an account and buy a plan.

Neither answers the question people are actually asking, which is usually some version of "I have a pallet going out tomorrow, what do I put in this box, and what happens if I get it wrong?" So this tool explains every field as you fill it in, shows a completed example rather than a blank one, and lets you print without asking who you are.

What it does

  • Generates a straight bill of lading(short form, non-negotiable) — the document ordinary domestic LTL freight moves on.
  • Explains what each field means, why the carrier wants it, and what a wrong entry costs you.
  • Prints to letter-size paper, or saves as a PDF through your browser.
  • Starts pre-filled with a worked example, so you never face an empty grid.

What it deliberately does not do

It does not look up your freight class, because getting that wrong on your behalf would cost you money on a re-class charge. It does not reproduce the NMFTA's commodity-to-item-number classification, because that data is licensed and is not ours to publish. It does not produce hazmat paperwork, negotiable or order bills of lading, or the documentation a cross-border or letter-of-credit shipment needs. And it does not tell you whether your carrier will accept the load — only your carrier can do that.

A bill of lading is a contract of carriage. This tool formats one; it does not give legal advice, and when the paperwork has to be right, confirm it with your carrier or broker before the driver signs.

Where your data goes

Nowhere. The sheet is assembled from what you type, inside the browser tab you typed it in, and printing happens on your own machine. Your shipper, consignee and commodity details are never transmitted to us, because there is no server here to transmit them to — the site is a set of static files. See theprivacy policy for what we do and do not measure.

Who made it

BOL Maker is built and run by Worklifted Technologies, a small independent shop that makes single-purpose tools for people who ship, build and fix things. If a field is wrong, an explanation is unclear, or your carrier wants something the form does not cover, we would rather hear about it —get in touch.
